The department store had traditionally been a decorated box. It was either designed with residential fixtures and furnishings in mind or was bare boned and utilitarian. Under the leadership of an enlightened, forward thinking management team, Burdine’s (now Macys) embarked on a multi store process of creating a more exciting customer experience. Utilizing the vision gained from theatre, space, light, messaging and visual presentation, the Burdine’s stores came to dominate the Florida Retail Market.
